Michael Brand
Instructional Development Specialist
Hi I'm Michael Brand. Currently I am an Instructional Development Specialist in the office of Online Learning at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Go Runners!
At UTSA I develop online and hybrid courses for several of the colleges across the university. Faculty relationships are not only the most important part of my job but also the most rewarding. Working directly with professors and assisting them in the journey of developing a course allows me to not only showcase my expertise in enhancing the learning experience but to also help them progress into the new frontier of online learning.
With a Masters of Education (Instructional Technology) from Misericordia University and a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) from Buffalo State College, I find myself pulling from both degrees to showcase instructional strategies and to create and edit content to enrich courses. I originally wanted to be a broadcaster when I grew up but when I fell into the world of Instructional Design, I fell in love with the process of sharing my knowledge of technology in the behind the scenes world of teaching.
The opportunity to work within a team while collaborating with new professors every semester has sharpened my focus to create engaging courses. I truly love the work I do!
I was born and raised in a small town called Grand Island, located in between Niagara Falls and Buffalo New York. Go Bills! I have lived in a wide array of locations including; New York City, Bath England, Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania, Shreveport Louisiana, Providence Rhode Island and Austin Texas. I have been to three continents and twelve countries.
For the past fifteen years I have been a lacrosse coach, making it all the way to the highest level as an assistant coach at Brown University. I have also won two championships and five coach-of-the-year awards. The passion and patience I have developed over the years as a coach has definitely come in handy in the higher education setting.
